The Capital District Chevrolet Club (CDCC) has been in existence since 1977, when the late Roy Minshell and two others were the founding fathers. The first meeting was held that year at Denooyer Chevrolet in the customers’ lounge. Roy and his friends wished to create a vintage and classic car club where enthusiasts could share their interest in preserving and restoring all types of cars, and also enjoy fellowship among members. Following Roy’s model over the past years, the CDCC has attained these goals, and will continue to grow as it furthers the car hobby. Under club president Phil Trifaro’s leadership, the club currently has about 50 members owning approximately 40 antique and classic vehicles spanning eight decades.
Monthly meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM at the Route 7 Diner, three miles west of the Latham Circle on Route 7 across from Keeler Motors. Yearly cruise events are taken to car hobby related destinations. A summer picnic is held annually and a Christmas party is enjoyed by all. Annual contributions from the club aid the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY and each year we award a scholarship to a recipient attending Hudson Valley Community College majoring in the automotive technology program. Our annual Antique and Classic Car and Truck Show is held the last Sunday in June at the Colonie Elks, located off I-87 exit 5, three miles east on Route 155. Dash plaques are given to car show participants, as well as 24 class trophies for first, second, and third. Two memorial trophies are also awarded.
Bob Adler stays abreast on current legislation that could adversely affect the old car hobby. Editors Jeff and Donna Bazicki publish a monthly newsletter containing this type of information for the members, along with other hobby information and features on its members and their cars.
Annual dues for a single membership are $16.00 and $24.00 for a family membership. Dues are payable by May or prorated monthly. Membership chairperson, Pete Battaglia (phone number below) invites anyone to attend one of our meetings and consider joining.
