The Capital District Chevy Club (NY) held its 25th annual Car and Truck Show on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Colonie Elks in Latham, NY. In spite of an ominous forecast, the club’s show was a success with approximately 100 vehicles attending that day. Antique and classic cars, trucks, rods, customs, and special interest vehicles up to and including 1988 entered into competition. All vehicles were given dash plaques and after judging done by club members, trophies were awarded for first, second, and third places in each of 24 classes, plus two “Best of Show” trophies. The Roy Minshell Best of Show Memorial trophy was won by Terry Mullins with his 1952 Chevy one-ton pickup. Jason Tice won the Dave Rose Best of Show Memorial trophy with his 1964 Chevy Impala SS. Participants and spectators were also entertained by 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s music from The K-Man, Ken Card and visited vendors set up on the grounds for the day. Other attractions were the Town of Colonie EMS and the NY State Police.
The Capital District Chevy Club began in 1977 and its 50 current members meet once a month to share their interest in preserving and restoring vintage and classic cars and enjoying the fellowship among members. The club supports the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY and also sponsors an automotive technology scholarship presented annually through Hudson Valley Community College. Members also enjoy cruises together plus an annual Christmas party and summertime picnic. For membership information, contact Pete Battaglia at 518-355-5151.
